Design Technology
This half term our theme for Design Technology was structures.
We had the challenge of making a chair for the wise old owl. Our learning had four stages:
- Exploring stability
- Strengthening materials
- Making the wise owl’s chair
- Fixing and testing wise owl’s chair
We had lots of fun during these lessons and learned how we can use different materials to make objects.
We used rolled up paper to make our chairs as you can see from the photographs below.
We all tested our chairs stability and then evaluated our work.

Science
This half term we have been focusing on ‘Living Things and their Habitats’.
We have explored the school grounds and found a variety of insects living in their microhabitats.
We have talked about what plants and animals need to survive and researched which animals live in different habitats.
We have also looked at food chains and learnt that all food chains start with a producer.
We have completed some simple food chains and labelled them.
We were then challenged to complete a food chain for the animal of our choice using an iPad to research.

PSHE
In our 'Being me in my World' theme we have been learning about acceptable and unacceptable behaviour. We have talked about the qualities of being a good person and why it is important to follow the rules. We have discussed what our responsibilities are and what we can do to support others.
Here are some photos of us completing a sorting activity of acceptable and unacceptable behaviours. Soon we will go on to write the reasons for our choices. We also took some time to write positive messages to each other.

We have a very special board in our classroom to help with our well-being. We know that if we feel we need some positive reinforcements we can take a note from the board to cheer us up and help us to think more positively.

Values’ Week
We’ve had lots of fun exploring our school values this week. Check out our photos below…
The first value we looked at was RESPECT. We read the story of the Exodus. As God shared the Ten Commandments to help make the world a better place, we thought about the ways in which we could make a classroom a lovely place to learn for the year and wrote our class charter and enjoyed a respect board game with our friends.

Next we looked at the Value of HOPE and focussed on the story of the lost sheep. The children had great fun searching around the school grounds for our very own lost sheep and didn’t give up hope of finding them all.
They then carefully thought about their hopes for the school year for our class ‘hope tree’.

The third value we explored was KINDNESS. We enjoyed acting out the story of the Good Samaritan and hot-seating the different character in the story. We’ve also been doing random acts of kindness around school.

We then looked at our school value of TRUST and shared the Bible story ‘Jesus Calms the Storm’. We talked about the people who we know and can trust. The children made their own trust networks using an outline of their hands.

Finally, we looked at our fifth value of LOVE, which encompasses all of our school values.
We shared the story of ‘Baby Moses’ and talked about what love means and how we can show that we love someone.
The children wrote the names of those they know love them and then shared what love means to them.
