Curriculum this half-term – Summer 2

Because of our visit to the Tatton Park Viking Experience, our first week of this half term will be focusing on our ‘Raiders and Invaders’ Theme. Our main theme for this half term is ‘Me, Myself and I’. This is predominantly a Science theme where we will be looking at food chains, before taking an in depth look at the human digestive system. One part of this system that we will focusing on is our teeth and how to keep good oral hygiene.

  • In Maths we will be working being introduced to area, before moving on to position and movement, geometry and Roman numerals.
  • In R.E we are continuing our large topic of ‘Churches’, looking in depth at questions such as:

What does ‘church’ mean? Are all churches the same?

What does it mean to belong to a church?

Where do people of other faiths worship? Are they all the same?

Are there any similarities between places of worship? What are the key differences?

Our main theme for the first half-term will be: ‘Raiders and Invaders’. This theme will focus on the Anglo-Saxon and Viking struggle for power in Britain.

  • In Maths we will be working on our understanding of money and measurement.
  • In R.E we will be exploring whether or not all churches are the same (part 1), answering questions such as:

What does ‘church’ mean? Are all churches the same?

What does it mean to belong to a church?

Where do people of other faiths worship? Are they all the same?

Are there any similarities between places of worship? What are the key differences?

Curriculum this half-term – Spring 2

Our main theme for the first half-term will be: ‘Anglo-Saxons … The Ruin of Britain’. This theme will focus on what happened when the Romans left Britain, causing a ‘power vacuum’.

  • In Maths we will be working on our understanding of fractions, time and decimals.
  • In R.E we will be exploring Easter as a story of betrayal and trust, answering questions such as:

Why is trust important?

Why did Judas betray Jesus?

What does it mean to betray someone?

What is forgiveness?

Curriculum this half-term – Spring 1

This half term’s theme lessons are focused on Geography. In our first theme ‘Water, Water Everywhere!’ study human and physical geography in the local area (looking at rivers and lakes) and comparing it to other areas in the UK. We will then move on to ‘Extreme Earth: What Makes Earth Angry?’, where we will be focusing on the exciting (but sometimes scary) topic of volcanoes and earthquakes.

  • In Maths we will be working on our understanding of division, graphs and fractions.
  • In R.E we will be exploring Jesus and how he showed his power and authority, answering questions such as:

How do we know Jesus had power and authority?

Where did Jesus’ power and authority come from?

How do the actions of Jesus show that he is the Son of God?

How do the actions of Jesus show his divine nature?

How do these stories reveal Jesus to be the Son of God?

What do Christians believe about Jesus and God because of these events?

Curriculum this half-term – Autumn 2

  • Our main theme for the first half-term will be: ‘Groovy Greeks’. Along with studying how the life and achievements of the Ancient Greeks influenced the western world, we will also be designing and making Greek vases.
  • In Maths we will be working on our understanding of multiplication and division and graphs.
  • In R.E we will be exploring the symbolism of light at Christmas, answering questions such as:

Why is Jesus described as the Light of the World?

The sun already lights the world so how can Jesus be the light?

How did Jesus bring light?

How does Jesus bring light?

Welcome to Year 4! I hope you all had a lovely summer and I look forward to working with you and your child to ensure we have a happy and successful year.

Curriculum this half-term

  • Our main theme for the first half-term will be: ‘Sparks will fly’. Along with studying electricity and circuits in Science, we will also be creating electrical systems as part of our Design and Technology.
  • In Maths we will be working on our understanding of place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • In R.E we will be learning reading the Psalms to understand more about the nature of God and also learning about David. We will also have two R.E related mini-themes this half-term: Our School Values and Harvest.
