Year 1/2 Red Squirrels

Welcome to Year 1/2 Red Squirrels 

 

 I am really looking forward to working with you and your child. I know we are going to have a brilliant year!

 

  • In class we are very fortunate to have support from Miss Blackwell - Price each day. As well as having support in the afternoons from Miss Still.
  • We will also be working very closely with the other year 1/ 2 class, Grey Squirrels, with Mrs Maley and Miss Casey
  •  For some lessons, children will be taught in their separate year groups.

 

P.E

  • Our P.E sessions will be on Thursdays and Fridays. Please ensure children have their P.E kit in for all P.E sessions and warm clothes for colder days.
  • Please provide a note / speak to school if your child is unable to do P.E, otherwise children will be expected to join in.
  • Please cover earrings on the morning of P.E days with plasters if your child is unable to remove earrings for lessons.

 

Reading

  • Children will have daily reading to an adult during our Read Write Inc. sessions.
  • Home reading books can be accessed online from the Oxford Owl website.
  • Your child will bring a book home to read. Please sign their reading record and bring it to school each day.
  • Books will be changed once the children has read a new book during their RWI sessions, which is usually every 3 days. It is important for your child’s comprehension skills that they read books more than once.
  • Children will also bring home a ‘book to share’ each week, which they will choose from our class library. This book is not for the children to read, but to enjoy listening to and sharing with an adult.
  • Please return this book to school each Monday so that it can be swapped with a different book.

 

Snack

  • If your child would like a piece of toast during morning break please ensure they bring 20p in each day or £1 per week. Fresh fruit is available each day.

 

 

Supporting at home

  • At the beginning of each half term, children will get a booklet with work that can be completed at home if you wish. This is not homework.
  • Children will have login details for Oxford Owl (to access their reading books); Language Angels for Spanish activities and Year 2 will also have logins for TTRS (Times Table RockStars) This will be sent home this week.
