What we are learning in Summer 1

Maths

This half term, we will be learn the foundations of multiplication by exploring equal groups, repeated addition, arrays and doubling. We will then move on to division and the children will be sharing objects equally between groups. We will then be moving onto fractions, where the children will be looking at halves and quarters. Finally. we will start to look at numbers to 100. Children will be counting in tens one ones, then using number bonds to partition numbers. 

 

English

Our phonics lessons will follow the structure of our school scheme – Read Write Inc. This half term will continuing to look at recounts during our English lessons, then we will be writing a narrative based on a model text, creating an information booklet and then writing a simple rhythm. 

R.E

This half term, the children will be deepening their understanding of what it means to belong through exploring the celebration of baptism and the ways in which people of faith welcome babies. 

Theme

Our theme for this half term will be 'How does your garden grow?' During this theme we will be naming and identifying different parts of a plant, as well as naming wild and common plants. In Geography, we will be describing seasonal weather changes and present our own weather forecast.

 

 

 

 

What we are learning in Spring 2

 

Maths

This half term, the children will be exploring numbers to 40 in a variety of ways. They will begin counting to 40 on different ways and writing numbers to 40. They will then start to compare numbers and look for patterns.  The children will then be reinforcing already taught concepts to complete word problems. 

 

English

Our phonics lessons will follow the structure of our school scheme – Read Write Inc. This half term we will be introducing English lessons where the children will be studying traditional tales. Once the children have familiarised themselves with the features of these types of stories, they will be writing their own traditional tale based on Red Riding Hood. After that the children will be exploring the features of a non-fiction recount and will be building up to writing about a family event. 

 

R.E

This half term, the children will be given the opportunity to reflect upon the miracles of nature and new life during springtime. They will familiarise themselves with the Easter story and will be able to retell it. The children will then be making links between the transformation of plants and animals and the Easter story in order to develop an understanding of the resurrection.

 

Theme

Our Theme this half term will be 'Beside the Seaside' where the children will be exploring seaside holidays from the past. They will investigate what seaside holidays are like today before taking a look at Victorian seaside holidays, why they became popular and how they have changed since. The children will be comparing holidays and developing a chronological understanding of the changes.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What we are learning in Spring 1

Maths

 

In Maths we will be looking at different types of 2-D and some basic 3-D shapes. The children will learn the properties of 2-D and 3-D shapes and will be able to group shapes according to different criteria. The children will then cover the basics of length. They will be able to compare lengths and describe whether something is taller, longer, shorter or smaller. They will learn how to measure two objects for comparison using items and body parts, before moving on to measuring using a ruler. We will also focus on counting to 40 in different ways and writing numbers to 40. As the sequence progresses, pupils are comparing numbers and looking at number patterns.

 

English

 

Our English and Phonics lessons will follow the structure of our school scheme – Read Write Inc. The children will also participate in weekly grammar lessons.

 

R.E

 

In R.E we will be exploring different bibles stories that reveal Jesus’ power and divine nature. We will be discussing how and why Jesus was special.

 

Theme

 

Our Theme this half term will be ‘Houses and Homes’ where the children will identify a variety of different homes and investigate the differences and similarities between them. They will explore homes from a long time ago and use terms relating to the passing of time. They will then find out what a Victorian house looks like inside and will be able to identify differences and similarities between modern homes and Victorian homes. The children will then move on to looking at artefacts from the Victorian era, where the will be able to identify differences between objects found in modern homes and Victorian homes and how this affected daily life for people in the past.

What we are learning in Autumn 2

Maths

 

First, we will be focusing on Position where the children will gain an understanding of positional language, as well as directional language for left and right. We will then be studying numbers up to 20, focusing on numbers between 10 and 20. They will count and write to 20, compare and order numbers, and see patterns within 20. Multiple representations are used including number lines. They will they move onto' Addition and Subtraction within 20' where will learn different ways to add and subtract numbers within 20. They will use their understanding of addition and subtraction to create fact families.

RE

In R.E we will gaining an understanding that Jesus lived a long time ago and that the world we live in is very different to Jesus' world over 2000 years ago. We will then be focusing on Christmas and deepen the children's understanding of the true meaning of Christmas through emphasising that Jesus was a gift from God. 

 

Theme

 

Our first theme is ‘Me and My Town’ where the children will be studying the local area and the history behind it. The children will be developing their fieldwork skills by drawing maps of the local area and using simple compass skills and locational language.  During our history lessons, the children will be sequencing events in chorological order and understanding key events that have happened in Skelmersdale.

 

What we are learning in Autumn 1

Maths

 

In Maths the children will counting numbers to ten using one-to-one correspondence and using ten frames to represent numbers. They will be exploring one more and one less. We will be looking at different ways to add and subtract numbers to ten.

 

 

English

 

Our English and Phonics lessons will follow the structure of our school scheme – Read Write Inc. The children will also participate in weekly grammar lessons.

 

 

RE

In R.E we will be learning all about why we celebrate Harvest Festival and how it is celebrated in different religions. We will be finding out where our food comes from and how we can help those who do not have a good harvest.
