What we are Learning Autumn 2

Bonfire Night

 

 

 

During the first week of this term will be learning about Bonfire Night. We will be reading lots of Bonfire poetry as well as creating our own poem. We will also be using our artistic talents to produce a range of Bonfire and firework art using a variety of different resources, techniques and materials.

PSHE

Selects and uses activities and resources, with help when needed. This helps him/her to achieve a goal he/she has chosen, or one which is suggested to him/her.

Communication and Language

People who Help us

 

 

 

 

Our second topic of the term is People Who Help Us. During this topic we will be discussing the importance of different roles in our community and how important they are. The children will be reading a selection of Fiction and Non-Fiction books associated with the topic.

                                                              Christmas/Winter

 

 

 

 

Our final topic of the term will be Christmas and Winter. We will be linking our learning to The Christmas Story, discussing the birth of Jesus and why this is so important to Christians. We will also be linking Science to our topic looking at the different seasons and the differences between Autumn and Winter.

Literacy

Our Literacy and Phonics lessons will be based around Read Write Inc.

This term the children will be a login for their Oxford Owl account. Here they will be able to complete the blending books/quizzes each week that are issued by myself.

We will be reviewing our speed sounds and playing Fred talk games throughout each day.

Books will be sent home with a reading record each Friday, please could you ensure that your child returns the book the following Friday as to exchange for a new one.

 

Fabulous Five

Religious Education

 

Our unit of work this term will be: ‘Christmas’. We will ask how do Christians celebrate Jesus’ birthday. Our link to world faith will be Hinduism.

 

 

                                         PSHE

In PSHE this half term we will be learning how we keep and stay safe. .

We will be looking at the importance of healthy eating, brushing our teeth, washing our hands and medicine.

We will also be learning how to be responsible by helping someone in need and why we should not steal.

Feelings and Emotions Express their feelings and the feelings of others.

 

 

P.E

We will have one P.E lessons each week. Our lesson will take place on a Thursday morning. This term we will be Superheroes using different equipment to show our super skills in rolling, crawling, walking, jumping, running, hopping, skipping, and climbing.

 

 

Music/Spanish

Our music unit this half term will be exploring sound and how we can create sound with our bodies and also different instruments. and we will be learning simple Spanish songs connected to greetings.

    

 

 

Computing

This half term we will be focussing on ‘My Online Life’.  Digital Literacy We will learn the basic skills of using a camera and also improve children’s knowledge of the risks of their online lives and to develop skills when using online services.

We will be linking History to our Christmas topic looking at photographs and discussing how Christmas used to be celebrated in the past compared to present day.

 

DT

This term the DT unit is Cooking and Nutrition were we will be cooking a nutritious soup. The children will explore the differences between fruits and vegetables using their senses (taste, texture, smell etc.). They will listen to the story ‘The best pumpkin soup’ and discuss the key ingredients the characters used before developing a class-based vegetable soup recipe.

      This half term in Reception we will explore Numerical Patterns and begin comparing quantities up to 10 in different contexts. The children will then be learning how to represent patterns within numbers up to 10.  By the end of the half term, the children will have a deep understanding of numbers up to 10.


English
